A day in the life……..

Who am I? What do I do?

My name is Tom.  I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am currently a Project Manager with a reputable national environmental and engineering firm.  I have nearly two decades of environmental consulting industry experience.    I’ve worked in various sub-disciplines of the industry, including: environmental health and safety; construction  monitoring; subsurface investigations; environmental and engineering due diligence practices, including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and Property Condition Assessments.  My primary area of expertise is in the environmental due diligence field, where I have performed thousands of Phase I ESAs and have managed hundreds of due diligence projects throughout the country.

Most of the the work I’m currently involved in plays an integral role in the completion of real estate finance transactions.    As such, I’ve been responsible for conducting research into property histories  and performing physical  inspections on a varying degree of property types.  I have completed assessments on open space, agricultural land, industrial facilities, office buildings and complexes, recreational facilities and marinas, multi-family developments, government installations, shopping malls, retail strips, telecommunication tower sites, service stations,  and hospitality properties.  I have performed this work for national and regional lenders, banks, investors, equity stakeholders, local governments, business owners and property owners.

There are quite a few blogs out there that serve to report on the world that is the environmental due diligence field.  Will mine be any different than the rest?  My goal is not to shed light, define, or interpret  the intricate world of my chosen profession.  Rather, I hope to relate my personal experiences in this field.  I will endeavor to introduce the personalities of those I’ve had the pleasure to work with and for over the years, as well as the sharing the unusual and more interesting projects I’ve been involved with.  I might even fill this space with gripes and complaints from time to time.  Overall, my goal will be to inform, educate, enlighten, and in some cases entertain.

Stay tuned for more!
